CNN Money featured a
list of 14 well known companies that have recently filed for bankruptcy. Some of the companies I was surprised to see listed were Eddie Bauer, Filene's Basement, Crabtree & Evelyn, the Tribune Co. and the Sun-Times Media Group (owners of the
LA Times,
Chicago Tribune, and
Chicago Sun-Times).
Some of them were more upsetting than others. I don't particularly give a hoot about Eddie Bauer's rustic manly jeans stopping production and I'm certainly not going to cry over the unavailability of Crabtree & Evelyn's overpriced lavender-scented soap (I'm sure my grandma has enough stocked up anyway), but companies like the Tribune Co. and Sun-Times Media Group are a bit more unsettling.
